Silence, Secrets, and Service – A Spring Hike
Just
downstream from Lower Table Rock, the Rogue River enters a
rough semi-wild area known as the Gold Ray canyon. It’s home
to ospreys, wood rats, and the sacred salmon ceremony. There
are lost gold mines, beautiful hidden rapids, and
wildflowers in abundance. But it is also a damaged
landscape, scarred by trash dumping and the abuse of
off-road vehicles. This year our spring hike will be a
little different. Walking in silent aware-ness will still be
our primary focus, and yet we will also be looking for
opportunities to be of service, such as picking up litter
near Tilomeek Falls. We will be supplied with trash bags and
a free pair of gloves. We’ll be doing some real work, but
along the way, we’ll also be visiting with wildlife, meeting
the gray pine, and discovering some of the best meditation
spots that the river has to offer. Look forward to sharing
your mid-day meal around a friendly front yard campfire, at
the home of Cindra and Ogden Kellogg. You may want to bring
along your pocketknife, so you can cut a willow stick for
roasting hotdogs and marshmallows.
Saturday, May 10, Meet at CSL at 9:00 a.m.

Coming in June!
Interested in Labyrinths?
Would
you like to visit three different labyrinths in the valley?
What’s a labyrinth, you ask? Well, join us on June 14, and
you will learn all about them. Lani Rossetta, labyrinth
co-facilitator of the labyrinth at RVMC, will be leading a
short talk about labyrinths and showing many of the laptop
labyrinths she has in her collection. After a brief question
and answer period, she will lead the group to three outdoor
labyrinths. Did you know there are dozens of labyrinths
(both private and public) in the Rogue Valley? Bring a sack
lunch and have some fun learning about labyrinths as well as
taking a walk through them.
Lani is
a former teacher, occupational therapist and is currently a
yoga instructor and gives workshops for Awesome Rawsome food
preparation. She holds B.A. and B.S. degrees and has
authored several books on labyrinths for kids, yoga for kids
and raw food nutrition and recipe books.
Saturday, June 14, 9:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
Service in the Park
Picnic Sunday June 29th @
Lithia Park Bandshell. We have the facility booked from 8 am
to 4 pm. We are having Service at 10:30 am with a Native
Hawaiian Theme. We will have Hawaiian decorations and
Hawaiian dancers with a Luau potluck to follow immediately
after service. We will have food in stations that include
salad, entree, dessert and drinks. We are encouraging
everyone to "go green "and bring their own washable table
service to cut down on waste. CSL will provide paper table
service for those who need it, and CSL will provide drinks.
The facility use fee for the bandshell this year is $150.00,
which has been paid by Starla.
Champagne Brunch Jetboat Excursion
We have the Jetboat booked for
Satuday August 23rd. We are able to book 24 seats without
paying a 50% deposit. If we go over 24 before July 9th we
can add more providing we pay the deposit. Last year we were
spot on with 22 adults and 1 child. Ticket prices this year
are $49.50 for adults and $33.50 for children ages 4-11. I
have asked that bookings be paid by July 9th. We will have
carpooling from CSL meeting @8 am to arrive for boarding @9
am. We will enjoy a nice ride down the river to the O.K.
Corral for a family style brunch served on the lovely open
air deck and then continue with a fully narrated trip back
to Grants Pass. Last year we had a really good time and I am
looking forward to going again! Hope to see you all there.
Gala Dinner and Silent Auction
The Gala dinner and Silent Auction is booked for Saturday
December 6th. The date has been changed from early November
to December to launch the holiday season with this wonderful
event. The thinking behind the change was that we could sell
gift baskets and other items that could be great Christmas
gifts and that the Social Hall could be decorated for the
Gala Dinner and be left for the rest of the holiday season.
The theme for the dinner will be a Night in Paris with
casual seating in the Sanctuary and music throughout the
evening. There will be food and drink stations throughout
the Social Hall. We will not be featuring soup this year
because of the challenges with the electrical system.
This year I plan to have all auction items on display the
Sunday prior to the dinner as was suggested last year.
This is a very important event for CSL so mark this date on
your calendar as a high priority and plan to attend
Wednesday Evening Candlelight
Meditation
Join us for our ongoing mid-week
meditation at 7:00 p.m. with candlelight and music, led by
Scott Durango, RScP. If you are a beginner, this is a great
way to learn how to meditate. If you already meditate on
your own, come and deepen your existing practice! A variety
of techniques are offered week to week. Native American
Flute music is often provided by Robert George. Come share in the expansive bliss of
Spirit!
